When you're only No.2, you try harder. Or else.
fntsma from the beginning has grown and evolved very organically; I never intended to sell greeting cards.
It all started with a card for a friend...basically how all greeting card brands start...you know the rest. The variable for this version is I couldn't find one that was weed themed and at the same time well designed and clever, something that I could see on the greeting card wall of any local shop next to a Rifle Paper card.
I'm not the first to design cannabis themed greeting cards that hold a Joint or Pre-roll, but like one of my favorite ad campaigns says “When you’re only No.2, you try harder. Or else.” and so I try harder…or at least I like to think so.
To make fntsma different from other cards I focused on creating a unique brand experience with our packaging. Our cards are packaged in black smell-proof bags - a nod to the experience of opening a bag of your favorite flower. The packaging also makes it stand out when placed amongst other cards and as a bonus, the bag can also be used as a gift bag to hold gifts like multiple joints, loose flower or edibles.
The weed themed stationery brands out in the market each have their own little system of how the joint/pre-roll is attached and then there are those weed themed cards where its just the card and no way to attach anything. But no one had the option of choosing between the two....Well, technically you dont have to attach anything to any of the weed themed cards but most of the ones I have seen have some sort of outline, holes, or placeholder of where the joint should go.
At first the fntsma greeting card was only available with the joint/pre-roll notches but after a couple of requests for cards without the notches, the option for “with or without notches” was added to the shop.

Although I was glad to add it, the whole joint/pre-roll option thing from the beginning bothered me because it makes the buying process more complicated…its an added step that doesn’t need to be there. It’s been working fine for the last two years but its like an itch that just wont go away and every time a card is sold it just bothers me that its an additional step you the customer had to take to make the purchase.
But…I think I figured it out.
side note- lol…ending it like if I were Steve Jobs presenting the Ipod…fuck it, its a big change in my little world.
p.s. Just making sure this is known, because yes there have been a few times where I’ve been asked why it was not included.
